Afcons Infrastructure has reached a significant national milestone in tunnelling by successfully completing 777 meters in a single month utilizing the tunnel boring machine (TBM) named ‘Flamingo’.
This record was established in July 2025 as part of CIDCO’s Hetawane Water Supply Augmentation Scheme, particularly within Water Tunnel Package-1, which is essential for providing a dependable and improved drinking water supply for Navi Mumbai and its neighboring regions.
The tunnel, featuring a diameter of 3.2 meters, is a vital element of the 8.7-kilometer-long project, of which Afcons has already finished 3.4 kilometers. This recent accomplishment exceeds the former national monthly record of 653 meters, which was set during the Amar Mahal II Tunnel project in Mumbai in July 2024.
Earlier, in May 2025, Afcons had also made headlines by achieving 714 meters in a month, a standard it has now surpassed. This new record underscores Afcons’ expanding proficiency in tunnelling and its significant role in India’s infrastructure development. The Hetawane augmentation scheme is anticipated to be instrumental in meeting the increasing drinking water needs of Navi Mumbai’s urban and industrial populace.
