The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) imposes a fine of Rs 27.56 crore on 70 brick kiln operators in the Amroha district.The move comes after they disregarded the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and continue their operation without the requisite No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the UPPCB.
Notices have been issuedin the regard that ,if the fine is not paid within 15 days, then the Revenue Department will initiate recovery measures by issuing Revenue Collection (RC) orders,
As per the officials, of the 165 brick kilns in operation, 70 were found to be operating without the necessary NOC. Despite receiving notices to follow environmental norms, the owners failed to rectify their non-compliance,Vijay Kumar, UPPCB regional officer, said..
The crackdown has stirred unrest among kiln owners as both the UPPCB and the Revenue Department intensify their efforts.
Meanwhile, the Bijnor administration has issued notices to over a hundred brick kiln operators for their failure to deposit taxes. According to Bijnor additional district magistrate Arvind Kumar Singh, “We have issued notices to brick kiln owners for not depositing tax.”
