Trichy Corporation sets March deadline for smart city projects

Trichy corporation has set March 2023 as the deadline to complete the pending smart cities mission projects. While the local body is confident of completing seven projects before the deadline, the commissioning of a few projects within a month appears challenging.

Trichy corporation has set March 2023 as the deadline to complete the pending smart cities mission projects. While the local body is confident of completing seven projects before the deadline, the commissioning of a few projects within a month appears challenging.

Officials said that works are in full swing at the multi-level car parking (MLCP) on West Boulevard (WB) Road and Purathana park on Butterworth Road. Even the preliminary painting work on the MLCP has been completed.

While the corporation claims that the Purathana park with recreational facility can be completed before March, the site has not seen any progress. Similarly, the Puthur air-conditioned mall is also proceeding at a snail’s pace, thereby raising doubts over the commissioning of such projects before the deadline.

The local body said the contractors were instructed to expedite the civil work since the funding may cease beyond the deadline. Anticipating the deadline, corporation has already suspended a portion of work in MLCP on WB Road and Puthur commercial complex. A floor each on the two projects will be suspended to complete the work.

The other pending projects include MLCP on Kaliammankoil street, a vegetable market near EB Road, a modern fish market in Gandhi market and a laser light and sound show in Teppakulam.

“Modern fish market with cold storage facility has neared completion, Purathana park will be commissioned soon. Cost escalation of raw materials and the Covid-19 pandemic slowed down the progress,” an official source said.
