Ring Road to be widened to ease congestion in Odisha

The state government will widen the Ring Road here from the under-construction Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) to Link Road along the Kathajodi river from two lanes to six to ease traffic congestion.

The state government will widen the Ring Road here from the under-construction Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) to Link Road along the Kathajodi river from two lanes to six to ease traffic congestion.

The existing two lanes on the Ring Road have become congested following the massive increase in the number of vehicles in the past couple of years.

“The six-lane expansion will be carried out from the Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal in Khannagar to Link Road on the banks of the Kathajodi,” said Prabhas Majhi, executive engineer, works department, Cuttack. “The 2.85-km stretch will be expanded at a cost of Rs 200 crore. A tender has been floated for the project. Work will start by January and is scheduled to be completed within two years,” added Majhi.

The expansion will include construction of footpaths, bus stops and landscaping with small parks and public amenities. Around 150 families living in slums that have come up illegally on the banks of the river will be evicted for the project, officials said.
