NMC to reintroduce industrial slab for property tax

Tambe, while talking to TOI, said the municipal commissioner has agreed to implement the government’s guidelines of recovering property tax from the industries under the industrial slab.

A delegation of Nashik industrialists, led by Nashik division MLC Satyajeet Tambe, met municipal commissioner Ashok Karanjkar on Thursday to discuss various issues faced by the industries.

Tambe, while talking the municipal commissioner has agreed to implement the government’s guidelines of recovering property tax from the industries under the industrial slab.

“Karanjkar has also asked the officials concerned to fix the property tax rate for industries under this slab,” Tambe said.

The civic chief, during the meeting, said industrial rates of property tax will be introduced from April 1, 2024 for the industries in Ambad and Satpur industrial estates of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

Earlier, there were three slabs for collecting property tax in Nashik — residential, industrial (non-residential) and commercial. In April 2018, the then municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe had revised the slabs and kept only two slabs i.e. residential and commercial. The industries were then brought under the commercial category.

While the industrial rate of property tax was around Rs 5 per sq metre, after revision the industries had to pay Rs 44 per square metre. Hence, the industries have been demanding the civic administration to reduce the property tax rate and restore the industrial slab which was in effect around five years ago.

The delegation also raised the issue of poor road conditions in both the industrial estates.

“The NMC has decided to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for resurfacing the roads in the industrial areas,” a civic official had said. He later added, “We will make a substantial provision in the present or next year’s budget of the civic body so that resurfacing of roads can be undertaken. However, we have already started road repair works in Ambad MIDC area.”

The industrialists also asked the municipal commissioner to construct drainage lines. For this, Karanjkar resoponded that the project will be included in the Kumbh mela plans. The delegation also included president of Ambad Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (AIMA) Nikhil Panchal.
