In a significant achievement, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) marked a historic breakthrough on Thursday with the completion of the first mountain tunnel for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor project. This remarkable accomplishment was realized within a short span of just 10 months.

Situated approximately 1km from Zaroli Village in Umbergaon Taluka, Valsad district in Gujarat, this mountain tunnel represents a significant engineering feat.

The tunnel’s structure encompasses various elements, including the tunnel itself, the tunnel portal, and other connecting structures like the tunnel entrance hood. Notably, the ambitious MAHSR corridor project is slated to feature a total of seven mountain tunnels, all of which will be constructed utilizing the innovative New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
