CMDA sets up special cell to clear NOCs for builders

Set up in the CMDA office in Egmore, this will be the single nodal agency for status checks and resolving issues reducing the delay.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has set up a special cell to look into the various causes of delay of housing projects and clear the ‘no objection’ certificates required by builders.

This cell will be headed by an administrative office, of the rank of district revenue officer, and include four assistant planners. Set up in the CMDA office in Egmore, this will be the single nodal agency for status checks and resolving issues reducing the delay. Despite single window system being implemented, several files have been rejected recently for want of more applications and details.

Sreedharan, president of Credai’s national chapter, stated that in several meetings it was brought up that the delay in issuing NOCs especially since they are required from more than 22 departments for multi-storeyed buildings.

As per CMDA records, of the 47 files received online, 22 are pending for want of NOCs. Also, 218 files that are legacy files and have been pending until April 30, 2022. Some of these applications are more than 10 years old as they haven’t got either the environmental clearance or or other department clearances.

Many don’t have the basic requisites as well, said Anshul Mishra, member secretary of the CMDA. “We recently held a meeting with all builders and asked them to submit applications that have been delayed. We cleared several files in the same meeting. In fact, in the last six months alone, about 247 planning permissions have been issued,” he said.
