Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized on Sunday the importance of promoting precast and steel construction techniques to mitigate dust pollution associated with construction activities. “Globally, reinforced concrete (RC) mixers are not commonly seen. Instead, steel and precast structures are prevalent.
They may incur higher costs, but I intend to discuss with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis the possibility of providing concessions and incentives for these methods,” Goyal remarked. He made these comments during a meeting with business leaders and housing society representatives at Adarsh Complex in the Malad West suburb of North Mumbai, in anticipation of the municipal corporation elections scheduled for January 15 in Mumbai.
Goyal pointed out that dust generated from construction work contributes to pollution and advocated for the relocation of reinforced concrete (RC) construction “mixers” away from urban areas. “I have already removed four to five of them from my parliamentary constituency,” he noted.
Additionally, Goyal proposed that rather than imposing a ban on pollution-causing processes, efforts should focus on reaching an agreement among builders to adopt precast and steel construction methods to reduce pollution.
The minister, who represents the BJP in the Lok Sabha from North Mumbai, also highlighted the necessity of designating public spaces specifically for religious, cultural, and sports events. “Since these are municipal corporation elections, I will refrain from discussing international matters, such as my recent visit to Brussels, where I nearly finalized the European Union-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA),” stated the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry.
