The Centre has sanctioned the construction of an elevated corridor along National Highway-48 in Udaipur, with an investment of Rs 363.89 crore, intended to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety.
This initiative will be executed in Kherwara town on the Udaipur–Ratanpur–Shamlaji segment, a vital route linking Rajasthan to Gujarat. In announcing this decision, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the project fulfills a long-standing request from local residents.
The corridor is engineered to segregate local traffic from through traffic, which will considerably reduce congestion in Kherwara, a bustling commercial center that experiences significant vehicular flow, particularly between Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
The elevated design will enable through traffic to bypass the town, thereby decreasing travel time and alleviating the burden on current roadways. Additionally, it will assist in addressing accident-prone areas along the route, thereby enhancing overall road safety.
The project is anticipated to improve connectivity, optimize traffic flow, and bolster regional economic development by facilitating smoother transportation of goods and passengers along this crucial highway corridor.
