The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to start snapping the water connections of property tax defaulters after Diwali.
Action will be taken against commercial establishments as first priority, after which residential properties will be targeted.
“We have issued notices to property tax defaulters and urged them to make their payments. Some defaulters have responded by clearing their dues. The remaining will be subjected to the action,” Ajit Deshmukh, head of PMC’s property tax department, told TOI.
This action will be taken in old civic areas as well as newly merged ones. The civic administration has to recover over Rs2,000 crore from such tax defaulters.
Officials added that residential properties have been included in the drive as attaching them over dues is a tough task.
Stringent action against such properties is limited to snapping water connections.
Houses with individual connections and housing societies and residential complexes with concealed pipelines will be under the scanner.
