Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has recently announced that four bridges spanning the Brahmaputra River are currently under construction, with the much-anticipated Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge approaching completion. The bridge is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February.

Furthermore, on either the 17th or 18th of January, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, a 32 km initiative, which is valued at Rs 6,957 crore. This project aims to improve wildlife-friendly connectivity and promote tourism in the area.

Sarma also emphasized the approval of a twin-tube underwater tunnel that will connect Gohpur to Numaligarh, a road-cum-rail project with an estimated cost of Rs 22,000 crore. This tunnel is anticipated to enhance accessibility between the two regions.

Additional infrastructure advancements will encompass an elevated corridor adjacent to the Guwahati airport, a 68-acre Aerocity, and a new state-of-the-art hospital at Guwahati Medical College, which will be supported by a Rs 2,200 crore investment from the Asian Development Bank. Energy initiatives, including the 120 MW Kopili hydro project, are also set to be inaugurated shortly.
