On January 18, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project in Kaliabor, located in the Nagaon district, with a projected investment exceeding Rs 6,950 crore.
This 86-km-long initiative will enhance the Kaliabor-Numaligarh segment of National Highway 715, thereby improving regional connectivity and addressing significant infrastructure requirements.
A key aspect of the project is the 35 km Elevated Wildlife Corridor that traverses Kaziranga National Park, which will ensure minimal impact on the park’s biodiversity. Furthermore, the project encompasses a 21 km bypass section and the expansion of a 30 km highway segment from two lanes to four.
Its objective is to enhance access to Upper Assam, including the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, while also mitigating human-wildlife conflicts. The elevated design is expected to improve road safety, reduce accidents, and facilitate more efficient passenger and freight transportation.
In addition, the bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will alleviate congestion and enhance urban mobility. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the public’s enthusiasm for this initiative.
