The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation‘s (PCMC) tax department seized 200 properties who had not paid pending property tax between April and December this fiscal. The civic body has also cut water connections of 17 residential and commercial properties during this period for failure to pay taxes despite notices and warnings issued to the owners.
“The pending tax for most of these properties is very high. The owners will be issued another notice and still have time to pay their dues, failing which the properties will be put up for auction,” a senior PCMC officer said.
Only 7,080 of the 33,241 property owners, who were slapped with notices, have paid pending property tax worth Rs 73.2 crore so far, while the total pending tax amounts to Rs 584.4 crore. Collectively, 26,161 property owners owe the civic body Rs 511.25 crore in property tax.
Phugewadi topped the list of areas from where officials seized 38 defaulting properties, followed by Kiwale (32) and Moshi (29).
“We had sent details about 110 confiscated properties for valuation to the town planning department to start the auction process. It includes some properties that were seized in the current financial year, while some that were seized earlier,” Pradeep Jambhale Patil, the additional commissioner of PCMC, told TOI.
The municipal corporation aims to auction a total of 500 confiscated properties, and officials concerned are working with legal experts for the same.
