The tax department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) on Tuesday said that they have collected Rs 1,004.7 crore in revenue from April 1 to September 2, with the major portion of this being from property tax, Rs 828.25 crore.
AMC said tax collection in this period rose when compared to last year. In the first five months of the last fiscal year, the civic body had collected Rs 716,54 crore. AMC said 53% of its total tax payments were made online.
“The tax rebate scheme and strict action against defaulters has produced good results. We have given rebates to taxpayers who paid early, and punished those who defaulted by issuing them notices, sealing properties and even auctioning off such properties,” said Jainik Vakil, chairman of AMC’s revenue committee.
