The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has reported a 36% increase in property tax revenue for the financial year 2024-25, totaling Rs 579 crore, compared to Rs 425.8 crore in 2023-24. This growth of Rs 153 crore is primarily due to a rise in the number of properties and improved enforcement strategies.
According to LMC officials, property taxpayers increased from 4.16 lakh in last financial year to 5.05 lakh in 2024-25, comprising 4.33 lakh residential and 72,108 commercial properties. This indicates an addition of 89,000 properties to the tax net over the past year. The civic body’s initiative to seal properties has resulted in the recovery of long-overdue payments, with more than 6,000 properties being sealed.
The adoption of digital payment solutions has been identified as a key factor in enhancing the accessibility of tax payments. The LMC reported 1.4 lakh transactions through online banking, resulting in revenue of Rs 62.19 crore, while payments made via Paytm QR codes contributed Rs 22.86 crore. In addition to property tax, LMC’s total revenue collection, encompassing both tax and non-tax sources, rose from Rs 909 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 1,355.3 crore in 2024-25. Municipal Commissioner Inderjit Singh noted that LMC has introduced several initiatives, such as holding resolution days every Friday, to tackle GIS-related issues and facilitate smoother transactions for taxpayers.
