Land acquisition notification for five Kochi metro stations

The notification was issued for the acquisition of land for the proposed stations at Palarivattom Junction, Kakkanad, Cochin SEZ, Chitethukara and Kinfra.

Removing the hurdles of metro station projects on Phase II line of Kochi Metro, the revenue department has issued 11 (1) notification for the land acquisition for five metro stations on the line. It is learnt that the notification for the land acquisition for two more stations would be issued within days.

The notification was issued for the acquisition of land for the proposed stations at Palarivattom Junction, Kakkanad, Cochin SEZ, Chitethukara and Kinfra.

A total of 0.9544-hectare land from Edappally South and Kakkanad villages would be acquired for the construction of these stations.

It is learnt that the 11(1) notification for the land acquisition for the Palarivattom Bypass station and Vazhakkala station also would be issued next week.

The SIA report has asked KMRL authorities to consider the possibility of giving adequate space between the newly renovated St Micheal’s Church and the metro alignment. Earlier, there were protests against the acquisition of a portion of the church land for the constriction of metro stations.

The KMRL has already clarified that the stations of Kochi Metro on its second phase would be eco-friendly modern architectural designs. It is aiming to finish the civil construction work of the pink line in 20 months and the system and signalling works within another four months.

KMRL is planning to commence the viaduct work at six locations and four station locations simultaneously aiming to avoid the delay of the construction. Aiming to speed up the civil construction works, unlike Phase I, precast method will be adopted in the construction of the stations.
