The Karnataka State Cabinet has sanctioned a project worth Rs 2,215 crore for a short tunnel-elevated corridor that will link Hebbal Junction with Mehkri Circle. This initiative is distinct from the ongoing Hebbal-Silk Board tunnel project, which is presently in the tendering phase.
The new corridor aims to alleviate local traffic concerns in regions such as Ganganagar, Sanjay Nagar, and RT Nagar, which are not covered by the larger twin tunnel project.
Proposed by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the project will include a 2.27 km three-lane twin tunnel extending from Hebbal Junction to the Karnataka Veterinary University, followed by an elevated corridor that will lead to Mehkri Circle. Mehkri Circle is set to be transformed into a rotary interchange, incorporating several flyovers.
Initially projected to cost Rs 1,325 crore, the project’s budget has now escalated to Rs 2,215 crore due to the inclusion of additional flyover plans. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will oversee the project and will fund it using its own financial resources.
