The construction of two housing complexes, being built for slum dwellers, in West Kochi will be completed by February 2024. At the project review meeting held in Kochi on Wednesday, K J Maxi, MLA, asked the officials to ensure that the project is commissioned in a time-bound manner.
The first housing complex is being constructed at Thuruthy. Kochi corporation is implementing the project with the financial support of Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML). Around Rs 18 crore from Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and Rs 21 crore allotted by the CSML is being used for the completion of the project. The ground-plus-11-floor apartment complex will have 199 units with a built-up area of 300 sq ft each.
The second apartment complex coming up at Mattancherry will have ground plus 13 floors. The work is being implemented by CSML at a cost of Rs 44 crore. There will be 15 units with an area of 328 sq ft in each floor except the ground floor.
Work on the tower couldn’t be started on time due to delay in getting nod from Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA). The contractor requested at the review meeting that the project deadline should be extended till March 2024. But the deadline was fixed at February 2024.
The work on the housing complex being constructed under RAY has been lagging for almost a decade. The project was stalled during the 2017-18 period. Later, it was resumed after enhancing the outlay of the project with the financial aid of the CSML.
