Four Bengal districts awarded for land record digitisation

President Droupadi Murmu presented the Bhoomi Samman 2023 at a function organised by the Union ministry of rural development in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Four Bengal districts – Murshidabad, Bankura, Nadia and Howrah – have been awarded the Bhoomi Samman Platinum Certificate by the Centre for successfully implementing the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP).

President Droupadi Murmu presented the Bhoomi Samman 2023 at a function organised by the Union ministry of rural development in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The President said the modernisation and digitisation of land records would have a great impact on the development of the country. “Digitisation of land records and its linkages with various government departments would help in proper implementation of welfare schemes. It would also be of great help in case of loss of documents due to calamities like flood and fire,” she said.

Murmu said under the Digital India Land Information Management System, a Unique Land Parcel Identification Number was being provided, which would help in making proper use of land and formulating new welfare schemes. Across the country, 68 districts out of 700 reached the digitisation target. Murshidabad district magistrate Rajarshi Mitra said: “Land department officials’ relentless efforts helped to achieve the target… All credit goes to the district land and land reforms officer (DLLRO).”

DLLRO and additional district magistrate (land) Angshul Gupta said: “Our department has been working in this field since 2011 and finished the process by 2020. During this time, we completed computerisation of land records, digitisation of cadastral maps, computerisation of registration and set up a modern record room.”
