Former Solicitor General buys 866 square yard bungalow in Delhi

"Sunder Nagar has seen a spate of transactions due to proximity to central Delhi and most of the bungalows in the locality are built on 867 sq. yard plots. Shortage of houses or plots for sale, along with rising demand, will keep prices in the neighbourhood exceptionally high, even if rates in other parts of Delhi fluctuate," said Pradeep Prajapati, a property expert.

Former Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanium has bought a sprawling 866 square yard bungalow at Delhi’s Sunder Nagar locality for ₹85 crore, three people aware of the deal said. Sunder Nagar has emerged as a preferred destination for top lawyers and many leading lawyers have purchased bungalows in the tony Lutyens enclave since Covid struck. Registry data by Zapkey.com showed the deal was registered on June 1 and Subramanium paid ₹4.25 crore by way of stamp duty.

“A portion of the sale consideration is a loan; it was a complete cheque payment in front of the registering authority,” Subramanium told .

As per market sources, India Sotheby’s International Realty facilitated the transaction, but it declined to comment.

Recently, a bungalow in New Delhi’s Sunder Nagar, which was owned by six members of a family, was sold for about ₹80 crore. Two sprawling plots in Delhi’s Sunder Nagar area were sold for about ₹130 crore.

“Sunder Nagar has seen a spate of transactions due to proximity to central Delhi and most of the bungalows in the locality are built on 867 sq. yard plots. Shortage of houses or plots for sale, along with rising demand, will keep prices in the neighbourhood exceptionally high, even if rates in other parts of Delhi fluctuate,” said Pradeep Prajapati, founder of Wealthvisory Capital, a boutique real estate consultancy firm.
