The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has collected Rs 2,424.93 crore in property tax during the first two months of the current financial year. The 5% rebate on property tax, which was offered as an incentive to taxpayers, ended on May 31, and property owners took full advantage of this concession.
This year, BBMP has implemented a new waste management user fee in addition to the property tax, which has significantly boosted overall tax collections. The civic authority aims to generate approximately Rs 700 crore from this waste management user fee. By the end of April 2025, BBMP had already gathered around Rs 1,200 crore in property tax. This collection trend continued into May, slightly exceeding the figures from the previous month.
Officials from the BBMP’s revenue department anticipate that total collections will further increase by the end of May. An official stated that BBMP has established an ambitious target of Rs 5,100 crore for total tax collections. “This encompasses Rs 836.34 crore pending from approximately 3.75 lakh defaulters and a revised tax of Rs 152.80 crore on 9,904 properties.
Additionally, the revenue from waste management user fees is projected to reach around Rs 700 crore,” the official remarked. As of May 30, property tax collections were recorded at Rs 598.51 crore in Mahadevapura, Rs 455.06 crore in the East Zone, Rs 391.96 crore in the South Zone, Rs 270.36 crore in the West Zone, Rs 258.63 crore in Bommanahalli, Rs 197.97 crore in Yelahanka, Rs 175.27 crore in RR Nagar, and Rs 77.17 crore in Dasarahalli.
