DDA may launch new housing scheme for 23,000 flats in June

The scheme will be launched only after it is approved in the authority's meeting, said DDA member and BJP MLA Vijendra Gupta. "Since no meeting could take place in May, the project is now likely to be placed for approval in June," he added.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has deferred its plan to launch a housing scheme for 23,000 flats.

The scheme will be launched only after it is approved in the authority’s meeting, said DDA member and BJP MLA Vijendra Gupta. “Since no meeting could take place in May, the project is now likely to be placed for approval in June,” he added.

A DDA official said that the scheme would be launched in phases. “We are going to offer newly constructed flats in smaller numbers after studying the market’s reaction, and all the 23,000 flats won’t be put up for sale in one go. We have also planned to amend the housing policy before the first phase of launch, which is likely by mid-June,” said the official.

The rates of the flats will be finalised only after getting the approval, and the houses will be allotted through a computerised draw of lots. A majority of these flats are located in Narela sub-city.

Following a previous amendment, for the first time, any person having a flat or plot of land in Delhi, measuring less than 67 square metres, became eligible to apply for the allotment of newly constructed flats offered by DDA. Prior to this modification, DDA’s regulations did not allow any individual to apply for allotment of the flats, if he/she or family members had any flat or plot irrespective of its area, the official said.

A senior DDA official earlier said the authority planned to put on hold sale of flats (around 16,000 units) under the old housing schemes after the launch of the new scheme to avoid confusion . “When the new scheme will be launched, we may put the sale of these flats on hold for one or two months,” said the official.

To improve saleability of the new flats, DDA has undertaken various remedial measures, including improvement of transport infrastructure, construction of Urban Extension Road -II, permitting amalgamation of flats, allotment on first-come, first-served basis and some concession to the purchasers.
