The second 100 m segment of a 2×100 m steel bridge was successfully launched over NH-48 near Nadiad, Gujarat, as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train initiative. “The first segment of 100 m for this steel bridge was finalized in April 2025,” officials stated.
This achievement represents the ninth steel bridge completed out of a total of 17 planned in Gujarat. The bridge, consisting of two spans with a combined weight of approximately 2,884 tonnes, stands at a height of 14.6 meters and a width of 14.3 meters. It was fabricated in Salasar, near Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, and is engineered for a lifespan of 100 years. NH-48, a six-lane highway, witnessed the second span being slid across three lanes from one end, with traffic management strategies implemented to minimize disruption.
The 200 m bridge incorporates 1,14,172 Tor-Shear Type High Strength bolts, a C5 system painting, and elastomeric bearings. It was constructed on temporary trestles elevated 14.9 meters above the ground and was moved using an automated mechanism featuring two semi-automatic jacks, each capable of lifting 250 tons, supported by mac-alloy bars. Throughout the corridor, a total of 28 steel bridges are planned: 17 in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra.
