The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has established a deadline of May 2026 to finish seven significant master plan roads, which total 26.72 km.
These roads, which have a budget of Rs 156 crore including CSR contributions, necessitate collaboration among various departments and private landowners. Progress has been hindered by challenges in land acquisition, particularly regarding the procurement of 75 acres.
Compensation is being provided through cash, alternative sites, and TDRs, although only a limited number of landowners have chosen TDRs. A VMRDA official stated, “To date, we have issued 155 TDRs out of 348… we are on track to complete the work within the deadline.” The seven roads are anticipated to alleviate highway congestion and facilitate quicker access to the new airport from adjacent districts.
These include an eight km road from Adivivaram BRTS to Gandigundam (Rs 40 crore), which is pending forest clearance, a 2.2 km road from Anandapuram NH to Gambhiram Reservoir, an expansion from Shivashakti Nagar to the VUDA Haritha project (Rs 7.65 crore), an expansion from Paradeshipalem to Gambhiram (Rs 5.04 crore), a road from Nerallavalasa to Tallavalasa (Rs 24 crore), widening from Boyapalem Junction to Kapuluppada (Rs 15 crore), and a 6.32 km widening from Chippada to Polipilli (Rs 37.92 crore).
Furthermore, plans include the widening of 15 internal roads for Rs 390 crore, the development of a six-lane beach corridor, and the construction of four elevated corridors. Reports indicate that airport works are progressing ahead of schedule.
