The Union government has sanctioned road projects totaling Rs 44,771 crore for Odisha, which encompasses enhancements to both National and State Highways. Odisha Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan disclosed the approval following a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on 09 December, 2025.
These initiatives are set to bolster the state’s infrastructure during the 2025-26 financial year, featuring significant developments on five National Highways, five State Highways, and projects under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
Among the prominent projects are the expansion of the National Highway connecting Bhubaneswar and Puri, along with the 140 km-long Tangi-Puintola-Ichchapuram road. Included in the plans is a 400 km roadway linking Rourkela-Barbil-Paradip and a 68 km segment of Pallahada-Pitiri under NH-149.
Furthermore, Rs 13,141 crore has been allocated for the enhancement of five state highway projects, which includes the four-laning of essential roads. Minister Harichandan also addressed a greenfield project that will link Bhubaneswar to Paradip. “This road will significantly benefit the port city and enhance connectivity,” stated Union Minister Gadkari.
