The acceleration of infrastructure development across India, supported by sustained public capital expenditure and expanding private sector participation, is reshaping demand in the equipment segment. As projects scale in size and complexity, the focus is increasingly shifting toward safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced machinery tailored to Indian operating conditions.

Against this backdrop, TIL Limited showcased its renewed engineering strength at EXCON 2025, unveiling three breakthrough, 100% indigenously developed material handling solutions – the CarryKing 515 pick-and-carry-on-deck crane, TMS-885 truck-mounted crane, and RT RST-8 rough terrain empty container reachstacker. The launches underscore TIL’s strategic focus on safety-led design, indigenous manufacturing, and technology-driven innovation as the company strengthens its position in India’s evolving infrastructure ecosystem.

ConstroFacilitator engaged in an exclusive interaction with Pinaki Niyogi, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Technology Officer, TIL Limited, who shared insights into the engineering philosophy behind the new launches, the company’s transformation under TIL 2.0, evolving customer expectations, and the growing role of advanced, application-specific equipment in supporting India’s infrastructure ambitions.

Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Q1. TIL unveiled three major products at EXCON 2025. How significant is this moment for the company?

EXCON 2025 marks a defining milestone for TIL. With the launch of the RT RST-8, CarryKing 515, and TMS-885, we are not just introducing new machines—we are signalling the start of a new phase for TIL 2.0. These products represent the world’s first rough terrain empty container handler, India’s first truly safe pick-and-carry-on-deck crane, and a strong re-entry into the truck crane segment we once pioneered. Collectively, they demonstrate our engineering depth, safety-first philosophy, and commitment to indigenous manufacturing.

Q2. You mentioned TIL 2.0. What does this transformation stand for?

TIL 2.0 is about redefining how material handling equipment is engineered, deployed, and supported in India. It is driven by uncompromising safety standards, deep customer insight, advanced technology integration, and 100% indigenous development. We are combining eight decades of experience with modern engineering tools, digital technologies, and global-quality manufacturing to build equipment that is future-ready and globally competitive.

Q3. The CarryKing 515 has attracted significant attention. What makes it truly disruptive?

The CarryKing 515 addresses a long-standing safety gap in the pick-and-carry crane segment, a category that has historically witnessed accidents due to compromised design and stability standards. CarryKing 515 changes that narrative by combining the most critical strengths of three distinct crane categories into a single, purpose-built machine.

It integrates the mobility and on-road efficiency of a truck crane, the terrain adaptability and manoeuvrability of a rough terrain crane, and the load-handling versatility of a lorry loader crane. This convergence allows operators to lift, carry, and place loads with far greater control and safety across confined, uneven, and high-risk job sites.

The crane is India’s first truly safe pick-and-carry-on-deck crane, equipped with a microprocessor-based multifunctional safety system, 360-degree continuous slew on tyres and outriggers, and exceptional load stability. Its ability to carry up to 6 tonnes on deck while maintaining full operational control significantly reduces secondary handling and re-lifting risks.

With features such as 4×4 drive, four-wheel steering, and a multi-section telescopic boom, the CarryKing 515 is ideally suited for demanding environments.

Q4. Safety seems to be a recurring theme across all three launches. Why is this so critical for TIL?

For us, safety is non-negotiable. Every product we launched at EXCON 2025 has been engineered with safety as a core design principle—not as an add-on. Whether it is stability control in the CarryKing 515, performance reliability in the TMS-885 truck crane, or terrain adaptability in the RT RST-8, our focus has been to protect operators, assets, and worksites. We firmly believe that the next phase of India’s infrastructure growth must be built on safer equipment standards.

Q5. The RT RST-8 is being called a global first. What market gap does it address?

The RT RST-8 is the world’s first rough terrain empty container reachstacker, and it was developed specifically for Indian operating conditions. Many container yards, logistics hubs, and mining-linked facilities operate on unpaved or uneven surfaces where conventional imported reachstackers struggle. The RT RST-8, with its 4×4 drive and 4-wheel steering, delivers superior performance, safety, and efficiency in these challenging environments. It fills a critical domestic gap and also has strong export potential in terrain-challenged markets globally.

Q6. TIL has re-entered the truck crane segment with the TMS-885. Why now?

TIL once held 70–80% market share in the truck crane segment, so this space is very much part of our legacy. The TMS-885 represents our intent to reclaim leadership through superior engineering, enhanced performance, and customer-focused innovation. With an 85-tonne capacity, a powerful Cummins engine, and an advanced boom configuration, the TMS-885 is competitively positioned for today’s infrastructure demands, while being backed by TIL’s extensive service network.

Q7. How is technology shaping TIL’s new product development?

Technology is central to our engineering roadmap. Across our portfolio, we are integrating IoT, telematics-based predictive maintenance, and AI-driven analytics to optimise equipment performance and uptime. These technologies allow customers to monitor machine health, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency. Our manufacturing facilities in Kamarhati and Kharagpur are equipped with advanced fabrication and semi-automatic welding systems that conform to international standards.

Q8. How important is indigenous manufacturing in TIL’s long-term strategy?

Indigenous manufacturing is at the heart of TIL’s identity. All three products unveiled at EXCON 2025 are 100% indigenously developed and manufactured. This allows us to maintain global quality benchmarks while remaining cost-competitive and responsive to Indian operating conditions. It also aligns strongly with India’s self-reliance objectives and strengthens the domestic equipment ecosystem.

Q9. With infrastructure spending accelerating, how do you see market opportunities evolving?

The outlook for the infrastructure equipment sector is very positive, driven by government investment in highways, ports, defence infrastructure, and urban development, along with rising private sector activity. TIL is well positioned to capitalise on this momentum through its expanded product portfolio, strong order book, and proven execution capabilities. Our solutions are designed to support both scale and sustainability in infrastructure growth.

Q10. What should customers and the industry expect next from TIL?

The products launched at EXCON 2025 are just the beginning. We have several new projects in advanced stages of R&D that will further strengthen our position as a comprehensive material handling solutions provider. Our focus will remain on smarter engineering, higher safety standards, and environmentally responsible equipment. TIL is committed to shaping the future of India’s material handling sector—confidently, responsibly, and indigenously.
