The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday notified 60 villages in Chengalpet and 17 villages near Thirumazhisai for new town development.

While the notification for Kancheepuram is expected in a week’s time, those for Tiruvallur and Minjur can be expected in a month, said senior officials from the housing department.

This government had announced five satellite towns near Chennai to decongest the city. This is expected to promote planned development in these locations.

“After this notification Master Plan will be prepared for orderly growth of these towns,” said Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, secretary, Housing and Urban Development.

The planning area boundary for the proposed Chengalpattu New Town, includes 60 villages from Chengalpattu, Thirukzhukundram and Thiruporur Taluk. A consultant is yet to be appointed for the preparation of master plan.

The consultant appointed to form the concept master plan for Thirumazhisai has completed the same and it will be submitted soon. The area for development of the New Town at Thirumazhisai has been delineated by including the contiguous villages close to major transport corridors including Outer Ring Road and the Bangalore NH 48. Some of the villages are Thirumazhisai, Neduncheri, Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Vellavedu and Nazarathpettai.

Residents or local authority can submit objections or suggestions if any to the government within two months from the date of notification.
