Repair and road widening of the 7.9 km Dobo-Kanderbera stretch has kicked off paving way for its early completion. The route links Dobo road-bridge at Domuhani confluence in Sonari, Jamshedpur with NH-33 in Chandil, located in adjacent Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The project, valued at Rs 101.06 crore, is being executed by the state road construction department (RCD) of Seraikela-Kharsawan division. The completion timeline for this project is set at 16 months.
Ashok Rajak, RCD’s executive engineer (Seraikela) said that 60% of the funding will support road construction, while the remaining will compensate villagers whose land was acquired. “The project specifications indicate that the widened road will feature two lanes on each side, each measuring two metres in width, along with a three-metre-wide median,” he said. Motorists using this route have faced difficulties for the past one year due to numerous potholes and craters.
Additionally, the road’s narrow width has led to frequent congestion issues. Kanderbera-Domuhani road, constructed in 2019, was intended to reduce traffic congestion on the Chandil-Paridih section of NH-33 between Ranchi and Jamshedpur. Vehicles entering the Steel City from NH-33 or heading towards NH-33 frequently chose the Kanderbera-Domuhani road via Dobo overbridge, resulting in heavy traffic on this stretch.Residents of Jamshedpur preferred this route for travelling to Ranchi, as it reduced journey time by approximately 40 minutes.
“Two-wheelers, private cars, SUVs, passenger buses, multi-axle commercial vehicles move on the Domuhani road due to which its condition deteriorated over a period of time,” said Vipul Kumar, who owns a travel agency and transport firm. He noted that vehicle breakdowns frequently caused traffic jams on this route.
