Regularise illegal buildings in Idukki

The order, issued by revenue principal secretary V Venu, mentioned that the district collector should submit a report about the illegal constructions, including those in Vagamon, to the government.

The state government has issued the order to regularise illegal buildings in Idukki. On August 7, the state cabinet had decided to issue title deeds for all buildings having plinth area upto 1,500 sq ft and situated on plots less than 15 cents which were granted under Land Assignment Rules of 1964.

The order, issued by revenue principal secretary V Venu, mentioned that the district collector should submit a report about the illegal constructions, including those in Vagamon, to the government.

“The illegal constructions up to 1,500 sq ft will be regularise, provided the applicant doesn’t have any other land or income source,” said the order.

“If the owners of illegal buildings over 1,500 sq ft, which are used for commercial activities, can prove that it is their only source of income, the district collector should submit a report to the government on these buildings under a special consideration category, ” it said.

About the buildings, which do not fall under the government-issued criteria, the order said that “the land and buildings should be taken over by the government and released on lease”.
