Registered construction workers to get Rs 4.75 lakh per head to build home

Of the Rs4.75 lakh, Rs2.75 lakh would be allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The additional Rs2 lakh would be provided by the state labour department.

State labour minister Suresh Khade on Friday announced Rs4.75-lakh financial support to build home to each construction worker registered with the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.

Of the Rs4.75 lakh, Rs2.75 lakh would be allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The additional Rs2 lakh would be provided by the state labour department. Khade said the government had directed the district collectors’ offices to provide data about vacant government lands for the scheme.

“The homeless construction workers had to undergo severe hardships during the Covid pandemic. Considering that, efforts are being made to provide homes to the registered workers at the earliest,” he said while speaking at an event organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai) in Pune on Friday.

Only 9 lakh workers are registered with the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board. The minister said efforts were on to get maximum workers registered with it.

The Credai function was organised to award the developer members providing the best facilities to construction workers.
