Realtor sentenced to life imprisonment for duping 250 people

 A sessions court here sentenced a person to life imprisonment for cheating more than 250 people of crores of rupee by “selling” them plots on the airport road using fake documents, which they never got. A lookout notice was issued for him after he went missing and he was arrested from Indore airport while he was trying to escape abroad. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused.

Public prosecutor, Nisar Ahmed Mansoori, who appeared in the case for the prosecution, said that the accused Ramakant Vijayvargiya had signed a sale deed with Maharaj Singh, Dileep Singh, Rambai and some more farmers for purchase of 25 acre land for development. at a rate of Rs 20 lakh per acre. The agreement was for 6 years and he was supposed to pay the entire amount of land in 6 months.

Agreement for half the land was in the name of a company and the rest in the name of M/s Ram Buildcon, the company he ran with a partner. He cheated on his partner, causing the other company to back out of the agreement.

He later prepared a fake layout plan of the proposed colony and without carrying out development work, sold the land to more than 250 buyers in the form of housing plots. The buyers never got the plot they were promised and with the crores of rupee he collected from them against sale of plots, he disappeared. Since he cheated on the farmers, who owned the land, they cancelled the sale deed and attorney letter given to him.

After he went missing, a lookout notice was issued for him and he was arrested from Indore airport while he was trying to escape abroad, said Mansoori. There were 31 prosecution witnesses in the case and 2 defence witnesses. The prosecution also presented several documents to support their case against the accused Convinced by the evidence produced by the prosecution, the sessions court held the accused guilty and sentenced him to life under sections 467, 468 and 420 of the IPC and also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000. He will remain in jail for another year if he fails to deposit the amount of fine.
