TheĀ Pune Municipal CorporationĀ (PMC) has completed about 75%Ā surveyĀ pertaining to the existingĀ landĀ use (ELU) patterns in 11 villages merged in the city limits in 2018.
The ELU survey is a key element in drafting theĀ development planĀ (DP) for these merged areas, which the PMC started since last year. The draft DP is expected to be ready by next year and sent to the state government for approval.
Civic officials said the ELU survey was a detailed study of how the land has been utilised in the merged villages. āPreliminary observations have pointed to mixed land use since residential and commercial activities have gone up in the merged areas in the last few years. There have been changes in land tiles and the ownership has been fragmented in many areas because of additions in the family over the years,ā an official said.
The areas that have been merged in the city are located on the periphery. The residents here have been demanding better civic amenities and planned development.
AĀ populationĀ of 3.5 lakh has been added to the city because of the merger.
A senior PMC official said that the ELU survey will continue for another six months. āWe are expecting to complete the remaining 25% work by mid-2020,ā he added.
The administration has also started demographic, socio-economic and house survey conducted by the city-based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. The survey will help in understanding the housing patterns, population density and social background of the existing population residing in the merged areas.
The official said the civic administration plans to start the proposed land use study after completion of ELU and demographics survey.
āThere is a plan to complete all the studies in the next one year. The draft of the DP will be ready by next year,ā the official said.
