Panchkula civic body to serve notices to 645 tax defaulters

A list of 645 such properties has been prepared by the officials, and the civic body will soon be sending notices to them. A seven-day deadline will also be given to property owners to clear the dues, failing which the sealing process will be initiated.

Panchkula municipal corporation (MC) commissioner decided to slap notices on private and government property tax defaulters, with property tax dues worth Rs 1 lakh or more still pending towards the MC.

A list of 645 such properties has been prepared by the officials, and the civic body will soon be sending notices to them. A seven-day deadline will also be given to property owners to clear the dues, failing which the sealing process will be initiated.

Civic officials informed that in the past, the MC had served notices to 119 people with outstanding property tax worth more than Rs 10 lakh. The MC is now planning to serve notices to a total of 645 private and government properties with more than Rs 1 lakh outstanding dues.

MC commissioner Sachin Gupta said that out of the 645 defaulters, 458 private properties have outstanding property tax dues between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 10 lakh — including Era Institute in Sector 14, Suraj Theatre, Big Bite in Sector 9, Hans Raj Public School in Sector 6, plot numbers 5 and 22 in IT Park, and Satluj Public School in Sector 4, among others.

Notices will also be served to 187 defaulting government properties — including Tau Devi Lal Stadium; Gymkhana Club, Sector 3; Gymkhana Club, MDC, Sector 1; UHBVN; Women and Child Development Office, Sector 4; district court, Sector 1; among others. The MC commissioner said that total property tax worth Rs 35 crore is pending against these government properties.

The MC commissioner has directed the zonal taxation officer Akash Kapoor to serve notices to the defaulters, and asked him to take strict action against them. He also asked the officials to upload a list of names of the defaulters on the MC website — mcpanchkula.com.

Kapoor said that he has prepared a list of the defaulters and notices will be served to them. A deadline of seven days from the date of notice will be given to all defaulters, and the commissioner has warned that their properties could be sealed if they fail to adhere it.

Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal said the MC’s revenue is suffering due to pending tax dues, and urged the defaulters to deposit the dues at the earliest to avoid any action.
