Owners of construction sites were fined for workers found without masks

The commissioner ordered a total fine of Rs 5,000 on owners of construction sites where workers were not wearing masks. He stopped people riding two-wheelers and driving vehicles and ordered them to wear masks even while commuting.

Coimbatore Corporation commissioner Kumaravel Pandian on Thursday inspected Covid-19 preventive measures taken up in the central zone.

The commissioner ordered a total fine of Rs 5,000 on owners of construction sites where workers were not wearing masks. He stopped people riding two-wheelers and driving vehicles and ordered them to wear masks even while commuting.

The commissioner inspected central zone which includes the shopping district —Gandhipuram’s 100 Feet Road, Cross Cut Road, Tenth Street, Tatabad’s ninth, tenth and eleventh streets among other areas.

He inspected all shops, restaurants, eateries and even food pushcarts to check if everyone was wearing masks and checked for social distancing.

Four people were fined Rs 500 each for not wearing masks.

He appealed to the people to cooperate with the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
