Keeping up the pace of key infrastructure projects under the Smart Cities Mission, the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (NMSCDCL) has announced to have completed 92 projects of laying of roads in the city. The body has also extended the earlier June deadline to complete all the projects and now they will be completed by December.
As per the Nasik civic body there are a total of 171 such projects identified so far and the local administration has earmarked a total budget of Rs 237.2 crore for the completion of these projects.
The combined length of the road projects is stated to be 36 kilometers. The road laying project includes construction of footpaths, utility conduits, water lines, storm water lines, street furniture, traffic signage, street landscaping works, junction improvement, and the establishment of smart bus stops.
The Nashik smart city corporation has so far completed the development of 22 kilometers of major and minor roads. The remaining roads, totaling 14 kilometers, will be finished by the end of the current calendar year.
The current project is running behind schedule and was to be completed by June. The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation board of directors have granted an extension to fast track completion by December end. According to Sumant More, CEO NMSCDCL, about 50% of the total work has been completed.
More maintained that the project was delayed as it required working in areas with old wadas (traditional houses). The project looks to enhance the overall civic infrastructure of the city, including the improvement of selected existing roads in the Gaothan area.
