NHAI to develop 121 km long Guwahati ring road project

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will develop a 121-km long ring road project in Guwahati, under the build-operate-toll (BOT) mode, at a cost of ₹5,729 crore. The state-owned authority has entered into a concession agreement with Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd for this initiative. The construction of the road is anticipated to enhance connectivity for long-distance traffic traveling along the East-West Corridor of NH-27, which serves as a crucial access point to the northeastern region. As per the official announcement, the concession period for this contract spans 30 years, which encompasses a four-year construction timeline.

The Assam government will finance 50 percent of the land expenses for the project and will also grant exemptions from royalty on aggregates and the state portion of GST, amounting to approximately ₹1,270 crore.

Consequently, the overall project cost is estimated to be around ₹7,000 crore, as stated. This initiative is segmented into three parts, which consist of a 56-kilometer four-lane access-controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass, the expansion of the existing 8-kilometer bypass on NH 27 from four to six lanes, and improvements to the current 58-kilometer bypass on NH 27. Additionally, the project will feature a significant 3-kilometer bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River. The ring road project aims to facilitate uninterrupted connectivity to key towns in the area, including Siliguri, Silchar, Shillong, Jorhat, Tezpur, Jogigopha, and Barpeta.
