The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has commenced preparatory activities for the Rs 36,000 crore Delhi-Panipat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, starting with utility diversion along a 22-km segment between Narela and Murthal.

While awaiting final financial approvals from the central government as well as the governments of Delhi and Haryana, NCRTC has issued tenders for the relocation of power lines, cables, and transformers.

This crucial step is anticipated to take a year before the comprehensive construction of stations and tracks can commence. Designed for trains operating at speeds of 180 kmph, the 136-km corridor, which includes 17 stations, will shorten travel time between Delhi and Panipat to less than an hour.

Future phases will extend the corridor to Karnal and it will be integrated into the high-speed Namo Bharat network. The Sarai Kale Khan station is set to function as the interoperable hub for all RRTS lines, thereby improving connectivity throughout the NCR.

Officials indicate that the corridor will alleviate congestion on NH-44 and promote a population shift to satellite towns by providing efficient daily connectivity.
