Modi to inaugurate KIA terminal 2, Kempegowda statue on Nov 10

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on November 10.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on November 10.

“I invite all of you to participate in the event to make it a grand success,” chief minister Basavaraj Bommai told party workers at the BJP state executive committee meeting.

The Rs 13,000-crore second terminal has been envisaged as one within a garden that will blend with the ethos of Bengaluru as Garden City. The interiors will reflect the art, tradition and culture of Karnataka and its capital. It was supposed to be ready in March 2021 but missed several deadlines. A BIAL spokesperson said: “There is no officially announced date yet for the inauguration of T2.”

T2 is being designed as an integrated terminal to handle domestic and international passengers. The combined capacity of both will be 70 million passengers per annum (mmpa).

Bommai said Modi will also inaugurate the 108ft-tall statue of chieftain Nadaprabhu Kempegowda and the garden-theme park surrounding it.
