Maradu civic body invites EOI for construction debris removal

According to the local body, a total of 76,350 tonnes of debris will have to be removed from the sites.

Maradu municipality has invited expression of interest (EOI) for removal of debris of the four controversial apartments would be pulled down soon. The debris would consist of large concrete chunks, bricks and mortar. The last date for submission of EOI falls on November 6.

According to the local body, a total of 76,350 tonnes of debris will have to be removed from the sites. The two towers of Alfa Serene would generate 21,400 tonnes of waste, Jains Coral Cove, 26,400 tonnes, Holy Faith H20, 21,450 tonnes and Golden Kayaloram, 7,100 tonnes.

The agency taking up the contract will be responsible for clearing all debris from the sites. It should have dry land at its disposal not less than one acre, vehicles not fewer than 50 and other necessary equipment for debris disposal.

They must also make arrangements for barricading and ensure the safety of equipment and workers at the site. The waste should not be used for any illegal purpose like reclamation of water bodies or paddy lands.

The Supreme Court had on September 27 directed demolition of flats within 138 days, a timeline given by the Kerala government, and had asked the state to pay Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to each flat owner.
