L&T bags EPC contracts for various projects in India

Indian construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for various projects in India.

Indian construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for various projects in India.

The water and effluent treatment business of L&T has received an EPC contract from the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) for strengthening the Dhanbad Urban Water Supply Scheme Phase II under Dhanbad Municipal Corporation.

Under the contract, L&T will design and construct an intake structure of capacity 77 millions of litres per day (MLD), two water treatment plants of aggregate capacity of 15.5MLD, and transmission and distribution pipelines of 584km.

The scope of work also includes ground-level service reservoirs of aggregate capacity of 8,600 kilolitres, house service connections and associated electromechanical and instrumentation works including operation & maintenance for five years.

The project is aimed at providing continuous water supply to Dhanbad city in the state of Jharkhand while maintaining requisite pressure involving automation including measurement of input & output water quantity and quality.

L&T’s GeoStructure unit has been selected by the State Project Management Unit, Government of West Bengal for flood protection works and embankment strengthening of Damodar river in East Bardhhaman & Hooghly districts, using sheet piles and Bullah piles.

The business unit received a contract from Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) for construction of stone columns in Krishnapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It also won an order from Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for the construction of piles and related civil work for the 2x660MW STPP coal and ash handling plant in Ennore, Tamil Nadu.

L&T’s GeoStructure secured an order from Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) for underground works at Korukkupet station in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as well as from IndusInd Bank for the construction of a diaphragm wall for a basement multi-level car park at Teynampet, Chennai.

In addition to securing an order for the execution of mechanical works for a cement plant at Kurnool, L&T has secured add-on orders for some of its existing projects across the Transportation Infrastructure (TI) and Metallurgical and Material Handling (MMH) businesses.

The company classifies its projects under four categories. Significant contracts are worth INR10bn ($145m) to INR25bn ($362m), large contracts are valued between INR25bn ($362m) and INR50bn ($724m), major contracts are worth INR50bn ($724m) to INR70bn ($1bn), and contracts under mega classification are worth more than INR70bn ($1bn).
