Land plots to have unique identification number soon

Soren also announced that the government will take up household surveys and conduct a feasibility study to ascertain whether there is a need to constitute new blocks.

Soon all land plots of Jharkhand will have a unique identification number (UIN), chief minister Hemant Soren said on the floor of the state Assembly on Thursday.

Soren, while responding to a call attention motion moved by BJP’s Khunti MLA Neelkanth Singh Munda, said 30 devices for measuring and identifying land plots (domestic and commercial) are being installed statewide. “This is a time-consuming process and we will be able to provide concrete information to the House in the next session,” he added.

Munda had moved the call attention motion to draw the government’s notice to the anomalies and the delay being faced by owners in registering their plots and their mutation. Conceding to Munda’s motion, Soren said the problem has persisted since the days of undivided Bihar.

Soren also announced that the government will take up household surveys and conduct a feasibility study to ascertain whether there is a need to constitute new blocks. At present, Jharkhand has 260 blocks. Soren’s reply was to a call attention motion by JMM’s Borio MLA Lobin Hembrom.

Earlier in the day, state social welfare minister Joba Manjhi was cornered by BJP’s Godda MLA Amit Kumar Mandal over the non-payment of widow pension amount to beneficiaries since January this year. Mandal, in his starred question, sought to know when did the government intend to raise the pension amount to Rs 2,500 from Rs 1,000, as had been promised by JMM in its 2019 assembly poll manifesto.

Manjhi denied the poll promise, stating no such promise was made. “Our party had promised to raise the pension amount, but it was not specified,” she said. To this, BJP lawmakers raised the pitch and accused the government of betraying the trust of Jharkhand’s people. Ranchi MLA C P Singh said: “The JMM is turning back on its poll promises.”
