J Kumar Infra projects in April-end was declared as the lowest bidder for the pre-engineered building (PEB) roof and architectural finishing contract at 5 stations of Mumbai Metro’s 23.6 km Line-2B (Yellow Line) connecting DN Nagar – BKC – Mandale.
These 5 elevated stations are located at Diamond Nagar, Shivaji-Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd and Mandale. Their civil construction contract (Package CA-07) was awarded to NCC Ltd. in April 2019 after several rounds of re-bidding, and the first set of U-girders was launched in January 2020.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited bids for this contract (Package CA-158) in early January 2023 with a Rs. 100.30 crore estimate and unknown completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in February to reveal 2 bidders – J Kumar and Ahluwalia Contracts (India).
Scope: Design, supply, fabrication and erection of PEB structural steel works and execution of architectural finishings, plumbing works for 5 elevated stations of ML2B corridor Diamond Garden to Mandale of Mumbai Metro rail project of MMRDA
J Kumar’s bid of Rs. 99.29 crore was just below MMRDA’s estimate of Rs. 100.30 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period.
These 5 stations will be the first to open up on Line-2B, which I believe will happen in Q2 2025.
MMRDA just like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) splits station civil work and PEB roof-work into 2 packages. Tender notices are pending for similar contracts for 17 stations between DN Nagar and Diamond Nagar.
