HUBBALLI: Infosys Foundation will construct 200 new houses at the cost of Rs 20 crore, announced Sudha Murty, chairperson, Infosys Foundation.
Speaking to reporters in Konnur village, Nargund taluk, Gadag district, on Friday, Murty said that the Foundation has constructed houses in the past too.
She added that the Foundation is ready to extend this initiative in Gadag district also. As soon as the government hands over land, it will start construction. But beneficiaries should promise the Foundation that they will live in these houses.
She also said that engineers of the Foundation will monitor the construction. She explained that the Foundation will construct each house at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. It will take up construction of 100 houses at the cost of Rs 10 crores in the first phase and same in the second phase.
The government should identify villages that have mud houses and are affected by floods year after year. Such villages should be shifted on priority basis, Murty urged.
She asserted that Infosys Foundation has already distributed over 10,000 kits with a mat, sari, blanket, children’s garments, utensils etc required for everyday use and four lorries of fodder life and fodder of four lorries is supplied for livestock of Konnur village.
Earlier, Sudha Murty visited houses that had collapsed in the flood and interacted with flood- affected people and listened to their grievances at Konnur village. She also visited relief centres to see the arrangements made for the flood-affected people.
ZP member Rajugouda Kenchanagoudra, taluk panchayat member T B Shiriyappagoudra, SB Yellappagoudra, Foundation’s Amul Kulkarni, Vijay Karnan, Rameshraddi, Dinesh and district officials were present on the occasion.
