The state govt on Sunday said that a sum of Rs 668 crore has been sanctioned to convert 787 panchayat roads into concrete roads. An official statement said that the amount will be used to convert 1,020 kilometres of asphalt roads into concrete roads.
The govt said that as a result of water accumulation and traffic movement, sections of asphalt roads get deteriorated. As a permanent solution to the problem, an allocation of Rs 668.30 crore has been made to construct 5.50 metre wide roads. In cases where concrete roads cannot be built, paver blocks will be used, the statement added.
The recent spell of rain in most areas of the state and subsequent water logging has damaged the road network to a large extent. The funds from this scheme will be used for strengthening roads in village areas of the state, the statement added.
