GE to develop an offshore wind factory in China

The construction of this new factory is to begin by the end of 2019 and is expected to be functional by 2021

To meet the growing demand for global offshore wind energy, GE Renewable Energy has announced its plans of building an offshore wind factory along with an operation development centre in Guangdong province of China. This factory will help GE Renewable Energy to cater to the increasing offshore wind demand in China.

The construction of this new factory is to begin by the end of 2019 and is expected to be functional by 2021. The assembly production at this site is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2021.

According to John Lavelle, the CEO of GE Renewable Energy Offshore, with the commencement of this recent factory, China is to become one of the largest offshore wind markets in the world. Also, with the Guangdong’s Offshore Development Master Plan. 66 GW will come from the Guangdong region alone towards 2030.

The new offshore wind factory will form part of Jieyang’s Offshore Wind cluster, which aims to develop an offshore wind cluster with a marshaling harbour and industry-related suppliers.

GE’s new operation and development centre will also serve as the regional sales and project management office for GE Renewable Energy’s Offshore Wind business. It will also undertake research and development activities that will focus on regional needs.

Additionally, the site will help customers in optimising project costs, training, data management and operation, and maintenance services.
