CM Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate new airport terminal building

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia will inaugurate the new airport terminal building, one of the most important projects of Kanpur, on Friday.

This new terminal, aimed at connecting Kanpur with more cities of the country had been in the pipeline for almost a decade.

Industrialists, businessmen, various educational institutions of Kanpur such as IIT Kanpur, CSJM University, CSA University, HBTU, as well as various other organisations of Government of India, corporations, ordnance factory, were anxiously waiting for this building to become operational.

The construction work was on during the entire pandemic, which is why it could be completed within the stipulated time frame.

“It was possible only after joint efforts of the airport authority, local administration and the air force, active cooperation and participation of public representatives and dozens of field visits and meetings,” stated a communique issued by the divisional commissioner office.

This building has been built by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) with a budget of about Rs. 150 crores. Its executive body is Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam.

It has parking space to accomodate 3 aeroplanes at a time, which can be increased to space for 6 airplanes at a time considering the future requirements, for which special provisions have been made. It has a handling capacity of 300 passengers on the departure side and 150 passengers on the arrival side. “Apart from this, it has provision of four conveyor belts and parking facility for 150 four-wheelers. This building is completely covered with solar systems,” communique stated further.

For now, the terminal will have flights available for two cities- Bangalore and Mumbai- said a senior Airport official. “IndiGo and other service provider agencies have expressed their desire for this in the coming days. The terminal is expected to connect Kanpur to 8-10 important cities in next 3-6 months,” he said.

To review the preparations being made in view of the inauguration of the terminal on Friday, Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar, DM Vishak G Iyer, Chief Development Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Direct Airport, Project Manager (Civil) AAI, Superintending Engineer, LDO, District Supply Officer and all other related officers conducted site inspection on Wednesday.
