Cement Industry Players suspend operations due to Covid-19

Orient Cement, India Cement and Ambuja Cement have temporarily suspended its operations at various locations.

Cement industry players have closed down operations across all their locations due to the Covid-19 scare. According to Crisil research, the cement industry growth is expected to halve in FY21 from 5-6% to 2-3%.

Orient Cement in its BSE filing said,”..respecting the guidelines of both the central and state governments, the company has taken steps to suspend production at all its locations till further notice.”

However, as the situation remains dynamic, we are on a continuous monitoring regime to take further decisions on the duration, subject to ongoing government guidelines and policies. Well-being of workmen, employees, their families remain our top-most priority whilst ensuring business continuity.

The company has setup critical response teams to ensure that they remain at the highest level of vigilance and dynamic compliance on hygiene and sanitation.

Ambuja Cement has also temporarily suspended its operations at various locations. The company has constituted the Business Resilience Teams (BRT) to respond to the spread of COVID-19, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Similary, India Cement informed that all their cement plants in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra are shutting down their operations effective from such dates as per the directions/ guidelines issued by the Central / respective state government.

The duration of the shutdown will depend on the improvement of the situation in the respective places/Governmental directions, it said in a regulatory filing.
