After a brief lull, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will resume its demolition drive to clear stormwater drains (SWDs) of encroachments on Saturday. A total of 302 properties will be razed.
BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar said the drive is being conducted based on the April 4 directions of the high court. The Palike has identified encroachments from various survey numbers and issued showcause notices to vacate the properties.
The identified encroachments are in Parappana Agrahara’s Venkatadri Layout, Garden Tree, Begur, Hongasandra, Chunchagatta, Kotanuru, Turahalli, Singasandra, Doddakalasandra, Gubbalala (a BDA-approved and a private layout), Konanakunte, Ragavanapalya-Chaitanya Layout, Hollow block factory, Arehalli, Alahalli, Marasandra, Gottigere, Kodichikkana Halli and Bommanahalli. All are in the Bommanahalli zone.
The Palike has identified 188 buildings, 13 compound walls, 39 roads and 62 pieces of land as the properties encroaching SWDs. The demolition will begin in the presence of surveyors and cops, said SWD chief engineer BS Prahlad.
1,290 more properties across zones
Sources said BBMP is also planning to demolish 1,290 properties which have already been identified in various zones. During the recently held inter-departmental coordination committee meeting, the agency said around eight properties were surveyed till October 13 in Mahadevapura zone and they are encroachment-free now. According to Anil Kumar, BBMP has identified around 2,626 encroachments since 2015-16. Till now around 1,634 properties have been surveyed.
