The government is set to bring in a law to control unauthorised construction of buildings in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits by penalizing those who violate building norms with a fine.
The government on Tuesday tabled the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill 2020 in the assembly. The bill seeks to penalise those who construct or renovate any building or any part of a building without obtaining permission from the BBMP or in contravention of the conditions specified in permissions granted. Violators will have to pay a penalty equal to the property tax in proportion to floor area of unauthorised construction or deviation every year as long it remains unlawful construction.
The bill also seeks to levy fees and annual track rent on cables including optical fibre cables laid within BBMP limits.
The government also tabled the National Law School of India (Amendment) bill to reserve 25% seats for students of Karnataka in the National Law School University of India (NLSUI), Bengaluru. Students who have studied in any recognised educational institution in the state for a minimum 10 years preceding the qualifying exam are eligible to seek reservation in admissions at NLSUI.
The government also tabled the Karnataka Lokayukta (Amendment) bill, which seeks to allow the Lokayukta to refer or transfer cases or complaints to any of the two Upa Lokayuktas in case the Lokayukta is unable to deal with the case.
All these bills will be taken up for passage during the budget session beginning March 2.
