The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) has stopped approving building plans for bigger projects for now in order to verify whether there are any town planning rule violations involved.
BBMP’s town planning division officials said they stopped issuing building plan approvals for only bigger projects like ground plus four floors and above from June 5.
Chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said there were allegations that BBMP had given approvals by compromising on town planning rules, and that was one of the reasons for flooding in the city.
To avoid such incidents, the town planning division is vetting the new applications to know whether any property is located on a stormwater drain or is violating height restrictions and other issues. These exercises are delaying the process of sanctioning plans but the problem will be resolved soon, he added.
Town planning officials said technical issues of uploading details of whether there are any violations of town planning rules on the portal have added to the problem of issuing plan approval. Efforts are on to fix that and the applicants may get the plan approval within the next few days, they said.
